Club of the Week (4-18-07)

This weeks club is somewhat of a staple in the Chelsea scene. Known for its live performance from Britney Spears and its onstage showers, Splash Bar NYC is the place many people, both native NYers and travelers, always seem to know about.
Splash has a very diverse weekly lineup that will appeal to many different groups. This gay owned and operated bar mixes big muscle men bartenders with drag queens, college twinks and sometimes the occasional porn star. With such a lineup its not strange that during a night you will see many different people that you might not see at your usual club.
- Starting the week off on Monday, Splash has its "Musical Mondays" where you can come and see and hear songs from some of your favorite musicals and broadway hits.
- Tuesday Splash presents "Ocean" with a mix of hip-hop, reggaetone and house music as well as a few different celebs you just might run into. Using both floors and covering all the beats you could ever imagine its a night to just let loose and you never know what might happen!
- Wednesday "Moulin Rouge" with Bianca Del Rio takes over with all kinds of drag acts and a "Drag Attack" contest. If you want to see some good performances or get a laugh out of the crass and spectacular Bianca then you'll see.
- Thursday turns into an all out frat boi college party with "Campus Thursdays" presented by Boiparty & Alan Picus. Alan brings his band of sexy and scandalous go-go bois to Splash bars and even brings them into the showers for a steamy end to a def steamy night of dancing and music.
- Friday Mark Nelson brings you "Full Frontal Friday". With celebrity DJ's and a full array of bois from all over its one way to start your weekend. With a special 2-4-1 Happy Hour starting at 4pm you should have no trouble finding what your looking for (or atleast give your weekend a little kick).
- Saturday becomes a massive playground for MEN as Aaron Tanner makes Splash into a plaground for men who just wanna be with men. With a variety of shows and hardcord beats from many DJs from around the country, Saturday is the day where Splash lets loose and lets men be men!
- Sunday Splash brings you the perfect way to unwind after the weekend. With DJ Lady Bunndy bringing you "Disco Tea", playing all your disco favorites from 4-9, and Trai La' Trash hosting bringo at 5, its def a good way to wind down to a 9pm showing of Desperate Housewives before you prepare for another week of work.

Splash is located at 50 West 17th Street (between 5th & 6th Avenues) in NYC's Chelsea district and is 21+

Club of the Week (4-11-07)

This week i decided to take a step back from the so called "main-line" clubs and instead feature a more laid back club/lounge. While most people think that going out requires big clubs, loud music and large crowds of people, there are still many who enjoy the small lounges with good music and a calm atmosphere to meet and socialize with friends old and new. It is in this mind set that i have chosen Plumm as this weeks club.
Plumm is located on 14th Street between 7th & 8th Avenues. With a warm environment, good staff and some great DJs we love, Plumm is the perfect place to come and relax any day of the week. The club is a mixed club but if your looking for a more gay time then swing by on a Monday and join Patrick McMullen for his Monday's Hard. Patrick & P.I.N.K Vodka have joined up for a 9pm-10pm open P.I.N.K bar and continue through the night with friends, celebrities and many cute bois you just wont see at a more crowded club.
Plumm's intimacy is what first caught my eye. As you walk in you take in the main floor with woodwork, warm lighting and generous seating to just sink into. As you move around the club you get a chance to really just mix into a crowd of people from many different areas of life.

Plumm is located on 14th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues.

Club of the Week (4-4-07)

This weeks club took some thought. So many clubs in NYC that need to be re-discovered. But i settled on Arena. Arena (formerly Show) has undergone some make-overs since Show closed Jan 1st. With a New York's largest programmable LED light system its turns this club into any type of party u want. Arena boasts a big dance floor as well as many seating areas that start at the floor and tier up. with places for an intimate group of friends to gather to an open seating area to meet new friends and mingle with old. While this club is big in size the attitude of the staff reminds you of a small local bar where you go on a random night of the week.

So check out Arena, located at 135 West 41st Street (between 6th & Broadway). Then let me kno what you thought. (Thursdays the infamous Susanne Bartsch throws one of her extranvagent parties with many gay attendees)

Club of the Week (3-28-07)

With sooo many gay clubs in NYC its hard for many people to decide where to go. As a result we tend to stick to the 3 or 4 that are extremely familiar and when we do vernture to new ones its only from a good recommendation from someone we know. The problem with this is that many times when we try a new place and have a bad experience we don't want to return there and can avoid that club for years sometime. Each week check back here to find a new club (sometimes they are old) that i will hopefully either open your eyes to or maybe fix that bad experience you may have had and help you explore suxh diversity that NYC has soooo much of to offer.

This weeks club is Rush, formerly Heaven. Now im sure there are many people out there that have all kinds of stories they can tell about the club, from bad promoters to poor DJ's or bad drinks. No matter how long ago it was its about time to check this place out again. After a major overhaul in promotion, ownership & management this club has finally gotten the face lift it needed.
If you remember the first floor you'll remember how small it felt with the long dj booth along the wall and the stage with bars in front and all those aweful mirrors everywhere. Now as you step into the new entrance of the club you'll find new paint everywhere, a new floor and more space than you ever thought you would find in this club. As the new owners came in the first thing to go was that long dj booth and in their genius they ripped that out and moved it closer to the back wall to open up much more dance space and made a bit of a larger stage so that everything is right there. Their next step was to replace the lighting and sound that needed a boost into this century. Replacing the old turn tables with new digital mp3 players and new subs under the stage has made the sound better than ever. The lights came down next and new strobes, spots & colors went up to give the new floor new life, specially with the addition of a new fog machine that just makes the lights dance across the floor.
Once you've taken in the first floor you might wanna just move upstairs to the second floor which has also been totally renovated. As you walk up the stairs the first thing you will notice is that you dont see your reflection everywhere you turn. I think those were prolly the first things to go and now with that alone the second floor has opened up and you don't feel like you're in a fun house when you're on the dance floor. New seating against the wall also adds to this new dance floor as well as the actual floor which has been put back to the original wood that was there so long ago.
All those renovations together with the newly painted and changed front have made this a new club that everyone should check out. The management has changed a few of the promoters and those left are ready to turn this club back into a hot spot that everyone wants to come to
